The site is a raised bog of deep peat at an altitude of approximately 160-170m above sea level and lies on the northern side of the upper Owenreagh river. The site is a lowland raised bog, with a fairly untouched dome structure, a substantial portion of which has not been burnt for many years allowing the development of large Sphagnum Hommocks.
