In 1978, the Brisbane City Council opened Queensland's first planetarium. The Planetarium is named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, a Governor of New South Wales in the 1820s. The Planetarium is located within the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha. It is a 15 minute drive from Brisbane City centre.
